Public Art

We think art enhances our community, and since 2008, when we commissioned The Bear, by artist Peter Busby, the West Hartford Art League has led an effort to place public work by CT artists on public land for everyone to see and enjoy.

We completed a fundraising effort to purchase the three bronze horses by Karen Petersen that we installed on Memorial Road in Blue Back Square in 2008.

We installed 'Susan', a large portrait by sculptor Philip Grausman on our grounds in September 2012, as well as a community mural, completed by attendees of ArtWalk 2012 which was installed in the Town Hall lobby last November.  ArtWalk 2013 saw the development of another community project, "Wheel Art", which is in the process of being installed on our grounds.

Our latest project is an an outdoor mural, designed by Hartford Quilter Ed Johnetta Miller, that will be completed in 2019.

The map below shows where the public art in West Hartford is located. Click on a location and you can get directions to the sculpture.
